With care your Jewel Within creations can last a lifetime…which doesn't mean that the materials won’t wear over time, or occasionally need to be replaced, but as with everything in life…maintenance is a key to beauty.

Fine jewelry is best kept individually wrapped so as not to be scratched or abraded, and utilizing cloth bags or padded boxes is ideal.  Chain pieces are best kept unclasped and coiled around a padding to prevent kinks and knots.  Cable necklaces should always be stored unclasped and coiled to prevent kinking.  Anti–tarnish bags are readily available through the internet to prolong the shine of your metals, and plastic anti-tarnish bags are safe for most gemstone materials...with the exception of opals and pearls.  Opals and pearls are sensitive to moisture, needing a bit of humidity, and will haze and crack if kept in an airtight container such as a plastic bag.  Cosmetics and fragrances are best applied avoiding those areas where jewelry will rest on your body and before jewelry is put on.  A quick and gentle wipe down of these cherished pieces with a soft, dry cloth after each wear will help to prevent build up of bodily oils and the agents contained in cosmetics and fragrances that may discolor or dull your gemstones.  Jewelry cleaning cloths and liquids are also readily available via the internet...we happen to use Sunshine Cloths and Lavish Jewelry Cleaner for regular maintenance.  Most fine jewelry stores can provide deeper steam or ultra-sonic cleaning for your treasured pieces as necessary and if appropriate to your jewelry material.  One material of note that should avoid liquid cleaning of all types would be Ethiopian Welo opal, which is reversely sensitive to moisture and will haze or cloud when saturated with a liquid.

Restringing may eventually be necessary in order to maintain continued enjoyment of these necklaces and bracelets.
