With care your Jewel Within creations can last a lifetime…which doesn’t mean that the materials won’t wear over time, or occasionally need to be replaced, but as with everything in life…maintenance is key.

Fine jewelry is best kept individually wrapped so as not to be scratched or abraded, utilizing cloth bags or padded boxes.  Chain pieces are best kept unclasped and coiled around a padding to prevent kinks and knots.  Cable necklaces should always be stored unclasped and coiled to prevent kinking.  Anti –tarnish bags are available through the internet to prolong the shine of your metals, and plastic anti-tarnish bags are safe for most gemstone materials, with the exception of opals and pearls.  Opals and pearls are sensitive to moisture, needing a bit of humidity, and will haze and crack if kept in an airtight container such as a plastic bag.  Cosmetics and fragrances are best applied before jewelry to prevent build-up, and avoiding those areas where your jewelry will rest on your body.  Jewelry cleaning cloths and liquids are readily available via the internet as well, and we use  and   for regular maintenance.  Most fine jewelry stores can provide deeper steam or ultra-sonic cleaning for your treasured pieces as necessary.  One material of note that should avoid liquid cleaning of all types would be Ethiopian Welo opal, which is reversely sensitive to moisture and will haze or cloud when wet.
